Sugar Pines Farm in Chesterland
If you’re looking for the full Christmas tree farm experience, Sugar Pines Farm is a great place to start.
This 100-acre farm in Chesterland has dozens of acres of cut-your-own Christmas trees, along with pre-cut trees and holiday greenery. Families can also enjoy tractor-drawn wagon rides on select days, warm up near the fire, and grab seasonal treats like hot chocolate.
Basically, it’s the kind of place where “we’re just going to get our tree” can very quickly turn into an entire afternoon.
And I’m completely okay with that.
It’s also about 25 minutes east of Cleveland, making it an easy option for families on that side of Northeast Ohio.

Christmas Tree Farms Near Akron & Medina
Kall Christmas Tree Farm in Medina
If you’re closer to Medina or Akron, Kall Christmas Tree Farm is another option to put on your list.
This is a nice choice if you’re looking for that more traditional Christmas tree farm experience. Pick out your tree, bundle up the kids, and make getting the Christmas tree part of the celebration instead of another item on your December to-do list.
And honestly, I think that’s what makes tree farms so much fun.
Your kids probably aren’t going to remember the year you grabbed a tree while running errands.
But the year Dad struggled to get the tree tied onto the car while everyone stood around freezing?
THAT becomes family history.

Okay, Youngstown-area families, you have some really good options without having to drive all the way toward Cleveland.
Pioneer Trails Tree Farm in Poland
Pioneer Trails Tree Farm is one I’d definitely include if you’re looking for a Youngstown-area Christmas tree farm that feels like an actual holiday outing.
The Poland farm has 35 acres of fir, spruce, and pine trees to explore, with both cut-your-own and pre-cut options. If you choose to cut your own, they even provide the saws and sleds.
Which means one less thing for Mom to remember before leaving the house.
But the extras are what can make this especially fun with kids.
Pioneer Trails offers wagon rides during the Christmas season, including horse-drawn rides on select dates. There’s also a barn where you can warm up and grab hot cocoa and other goodies after finding your tree.

7P Trees in Hubbard
Another option for families around Youngstown, Hubbard, and the Pennsylvania line is 7P Trees – Pieton’s Christmas Tree Farm.
Located at 6860 New York Lane in Hubbard, it’s especially convenient if you’re on the eastern side of the Mahoning Valley or coming over from Western Pennsylvania.
If your family’s Christmas tradition includes picking out a real tree together, this is another local farm worth checking out before making a longer drive north.
And I love that we have options like this close to home. Sometimes you want the Christmas tree farm experience without turning it into a three-hour road trip with children asking when you’re going to be there every six minutes.

Doc Miller’s Christmas Trees in Alliance
If you’re somewhere between Youngstown and Canton, Doc Miller’s Christmas Trees in Alliance gives you another option for a traditional choose-and-cut experience.
This is the kind of stop I’d consider if your family isn’t necessarily looking for a huge Christmas attraction. Sometimes you just want to walk through the trees, find your tree, cut it down together, and head home to decorate it.

A Few Tips Before Taking the Kids to a Christmas Tree Farm
First things first: dress for the actual weather.
Not the cute Christmas weather we imagine in our heads.
Actual Ohio weather.
That might mean mud boots instead of adorable shoes. Dress everyone in layers, and bring hats and gloves for the kids. Hand warmers can also be lifesavers when temperatures drop.
I also wouldn’t put anyone in clothing you’re terrified of getting dirty. You’re walking through a farm, dragging a tree around, and possibly dealing with mud, pine needles, and sap.
This is not the day for pristine white toddler pants.
If you have little kids, throw snacks and water in the car too. Picking a Christmas tree is magical right up until someone is hungry.
Then absolutely nothing is magical.
Finally, check the farm’s website or social media before you leave home. Christmas tree availability, activities, weather policies, and hours can change throughout the season.
And PLEASE Take the Pictures
You knew I was going to say this.
But seriously.
Take the picture of them walking through the trees.
Take the picture of your kids trying to help Dad with the saw.
Take the picture of everyone standing next to the tree they picked.
And definitely take the picture when you’re attempting to get that tree onto the roof of your car.
