Eating out with kids can sometimes feel like an activity all by itself. Between finding something everyone will eat, keeping little ones entertained, and hoping the food arrives before patience runs out, choosing the right restaurant can make a big difference.
Fortunately, there are plenty of family-friendly restaurants in Northeast Ohio where bringing the kids doesn’t feel like an afterthought. Whether you’re planning a day in Cleveland, spending time around Akron, or looking for somewhere to eat near Youngstown, these are a few local options to keep in mind.
Family-Friendly Restaurants in Cleveland
Winking Lizard Downtown Cleveland
If your family prefers casual restaurants where you don’t have to worry about everyone sitting perfectly still and whispering through dinner, Winking Lizard is an easy option.
The restaurant has several Greater Cleveland-area locations and offers familiar American favorites such as burgers, pizza, sandwiches, and wings. There is also a dedicated kids’ menu with options including mini burgers, grilled cheese, traditional wings, and boneless wings.
The casual sports-bar atmosphere can also be nice when dining with kids. A little family noise isn’t likely to feel terribly out of place.
Yours Truly Playhouse Square
Yours Truly is another longtime local option, particularly if you have children with very specific opinions about what counts as an acceptable meal.
Their dedicated kids’ menu includes breakfast served throughout the day, along with familiar lunch and dinner choices such as macaroni and cheese, chicken fingers, burgers, grilled cheese, and hot dogs. Kids 10 and younger also receive a complimentary scoop of vanilla ice cream with their meal.
That last part may or may not become the only thing your child remembers about dinner.

Family-Friendly Restaurants Around Akron
The Lockview Restaurant
The Lockview in downtown Akron is known for gourmet grilled cheese, which makes it an interesting middle ground between something kids recognize and something adults can actually get excited about.
The menu includes several versions of grilled cheese along with sandwiches, burgers, salads, tomato soup, and macaroni and cheese. Its online ordering menu also lists a children’s Dino Nugget Basket.
One important note before adding this one to your plans: the restaurant has recently indicated it is in a transition period, so I would confirm its current operating status and hours before making a special trip.

Kid-Friendly Restaurants Near Youngstown
Kennsington Grille
For families around Canfield and Youngstown, Kennsington Grille is a nice option when you want a sit-down dinner that still feels comfortable with children.
Located at Kennsington Golf Club in Canfield, the restaurant offers a broad American menu with choices for both kids and adults. Their kids’ selections include familiar favorites such as burgers, grilled cheese, chicken tenders, macaroni and cheese, and pasta with meatballs. The regular menu gives parents plenty of additional choices, from salads and flatbreads to sandwiches and entrées.
The golf-course setting and patio also make this one a little different from your typical family dinner spot.
What Actually Makes a Restaurant Kid-Friendly?
A children’s menu certainly helps, but I don’t think that’s the only thing parents are looking for when choosing a restaurant.
Sometimes the little details matter even more. Is there a highchair available? Can you comfortably bring a stroller inside? Will dinner take two hours? And, perhaps most importantly, will you spend the entire meal worrying that your toddler is the loudest person in the building?
Casual surroundings, flexible menus, reasonable service times, and a welcoming attitude toward families can turn dinner into something everyone actually enjoys.
If you have a baby or toddler, it never hurts to call ahead and ask about highchairs, booster seats, stroller space, or other things your family needs. It’s much easier to find out before you’ve unloaded everyone from the car.
Make Eating Out Part of Your Family Day
One of the best things about these restaurants is that they can easily become part of a bigger Northeast Ohio family outing.
Grab breakfast before heading to a museum. Stop for lunch after spending the morning at the park. Have dinner after a day exploring Cleveland, Akron, or Youngstown.
It doesn’t have to be a special occasion, either. Some of the family memories we end up loving most come from ordinary days together.
And yes, that includes the dinners where somebody spills a drink five minutes after sitting down.
Finding Family-Friendly Restaurants in Northeast Ohio
Finding a restaurant that works for both parents and kids can make getting out of the house feel much easier. From the dedicated kids’ menus at Winking Lizard and Yours Truly to the family-friendly choices at Kennsington Grille, Northeast Ohio has plenty of options when no one feels like cooking.
Menus, hours, and restaurant policies can change, so I always recommend checking directly with the restaurant before heading out—especially when you’re planning around naps, activities, or hungry little ones.
