How to have a stress free session

With everything that has happened this far in 2020, your photo sessions should be your least stressful decision. Here are some tips to reduce stress for your session:

  • The perfect outfit is right in your closet. Usually, there’s no need to go out and buy a new outfit for your session. I’ve planned a few sessions for my boys and always say “oh yeah, forgot you had this.” Yes, it may be easier to just buy new sometimes. But saving a few bucks is always a stress relief for me.
  • Solid colors are best compared to patterns. When choosing your outfits, think about your background. Some of the best colors are “deep reds, teals/ turquoises, and many other shades in the blue/green family. Rich and deeper greens, purples, and blue are all good. If a neutral is preferred, gray is the best, even better than black. Earthy and warm browns are good. Black and white together can offer too much contrast as well. Mid-tone or more vibrant rose-pink tones and corals are flattering.” 1
  • Goodie bags. I always try to recommend packing a goodie bag for the littles. Pack their favorite toy or snack. Something that will give a guaranteed laugh or smile. Cooperation is one thing that constantly comes up when booking clients. “What if they cry the whole time” “What if we don’t get any good images”. One thing I take away from crying/non-smiling photos is that this is just the phase they are in right now. For the first few shots, my job is getting everyone comfortable and I don’t mind having to have a few dance and wiggle offs with clients just to get rid of the jitters.
  • The most basic and most important in my book… Get a good night’s sleep. I personally love sleep… I adore naps. Sometimes before a session… I may be waking up from a glorious nap. Out bodies need refreshed sometimes and sleep can do just that.
  • Make sure everyone is fed before the session. No one likes being hangry. Whether is breakfast, snack, or lunch. Make sure everyone’s belly is full for laughter’s.
  • Lastly tip is to remember you hired me for a reason. My job is to make this as easy and stress-less as possible for you. With most sessions, I will send a guide of recommended outfits, which usually contains everyday looks for the family. I will help with posing and doing all the wacky things to get the kiddos to smile and feel a bit more comfortable during out session.

Your session with any photographer shouldn’t keep you up all night, rather put you a little at ease knowing that no matter what these are memories that you and your family will cherish forever
